An agreement that chiefly concerns international competitions for the French men's team and a permanent national series under the name "Rondes Société Générale", which attracts over 900,000 players. It also covers promotional initiatives addressing young people in school, youth organization and university environments. A partnership that perfectly reflects the close relationships with the bridge clubs and regional committees that make up the French Bridge Federation that Société Générale has been developing for more than twenty years now.
In 2008, the France Société Générale under-21 team took gold at the World Mind Sports games in Beijing.
France became world bridge champion at the World Mind Sports games that took in place in Beijing from October 4th to 18th 2008, giving French bridge its first title in the youth category. To become the world number one, the French team played for an average of seven hours a day over the two weeks of competition. After coming second in the knockout pool behind the United Kingdom, the players beat the United States in the quarterfinals and Bulgaria in the semis before coming face to face with the United Kingdom again in the final.
This performance crowns the efforts of the
French Bridge Federation to generate interest in the sport as of
primary school level and follow its development through secondary
education to university.
