Continuing its growth and globalisation strategy, the Société Générale group gathers nearly 151,000 employees, working in 82 countries. In an ever-more diversified environment, and a broadened spectrum of activities, business lines, cultures and profiles, Human Resource management supports the Group’s policy lines:
- Accompany its development and the diversification of its business-lines,
- Reinforce the Group's appeal, in order to attract new talents and retain current employees,
- Assess and valorise the diversity and dynamism of employees,
- Promote responsibility and performance,
- Continue to put the stress on personnel management and development, by favouring accompaniment actions and integrating the international aspect,
- Favour cohesion via the sharing of common values.
To accompany the development of its activities throughout the world, the Group is carrying out an active recruitment policy, adapted to the characteristics of the business lines, activities and geographical zones concerned. This is a way to ensure the renewal of employees and skills, and maintain the quality of the services we provide to our clients.
Substantial increase in recruitment
In 2007, the Group welcomed nearly 19,000 new employees into the
Group via permanent contracts (6,000 of them in France), almost 29%
more than in 2006.
These recruitments make the Group a major economic player in terms
of employment, notably in France. The record level of hiring and
its nature reflects both the Group’s dynamism and
attractiveness (1) and its desire to broaden
recruitment, in order to better reflect the diversity of the
countries in which it is present.
(1) In the 2007 ranking of most attractive firms in France, Société Générale is ranked 2nd according to business school students, and 3rd according to engineering schools students (Sofres 2007 poll).
Actions to recruit people with diversified
profiles
Several initiatives have been launched, notably in
France:
- A partnership convention signed with the ANPE (the French national employment office) to hire people with a first commercial experience, even if they do not have a diploma.
- An active participation to the Phénix operation, which allows students with general literary or scientific diplomas to be hired via permanent contracts;
- A Recruitment Forum open to young university graduates, to high school graduates with a first commercial experience and to experimented people, regardless of them having a first experience in the banking system…
A frequent recourse to work-study programmes
In France, the Group’s approach is based on
pre-recruitment via work-study programmes and internships on the
targeted business lines and sales training. Over 1,600 young people
were working within such programmes in the Bank in 2007, mostly in
retail banking. The Group also pursues and develops its long-term
relationships with various schools: in 2007, the Group has created
many new partnerships with major business schools in 17 European
countries, with engineering schools, and with various universities
to meet the recruitment needs and diversify the profiles of the
employees.
Our branches abroad are also very dynamic in that field, and
they have developed many partnerships with local universities and
schools, aiming to facilitate the insertion of interns, the
participation to forums and juries, and the participation in
classes.
Société Générale pays special attention to the
successful integration of new employees. It organizes, for example,
integration seminars that enable new recruits to get to know the
Group, understand its strategy and the diversity of its business
lines, and share its culture and values: professionalism, team
spirit and innovation. In 2007, 1,500 middle management personnel
from various entities (including 40% of non-French) took part in
the Group’s integration seminars.
