In Europe, Africa, Asia and South America, 208 solidarity initiatives helped raise €667,000 for charitable organisations partnered with the Group in a massive employee undertaking in 41 countries.
This year, a tie and scarf drive was organised within the various entities for the benefit of organisations dedicated to professional integration through the Agence du Don en Nature (Agency for Donations in Kind). This unprecedented joint initiative proved to be a resounding success with employees. 8,600 items were collected around the world, enabling the Apprentis d’Auteuil organisation to receive a donation of €15,000 from the Societe Generale Foundation.
Citizen Commitment Week concluded on Monday, June 25 with the announcement of the winners of the Citizen Commitment Awards, which gave prizes to three projects with which the Group’s employees have chosen to become involved. Voting was open to employees from June 1st to the 15th and there were ten projects in the running, all of them supported by the Societe Generale Foundation for Solidarity with the goal of encouraging professional integration. In total, 4,363 employees voted for their favourite project, a 25% increase in participation from 2011.
The three winners of the Citizen Commitment Awards 2012
The three winners, which will receive a donation of €90,000 from the Group’s Foundation, presided by Frédéric Oudéa, are the following:
1st place: The fight against illiteracy project in Burkina Faso run by the Amis de Kantchari foundation in collaboration with Talents & Partage, a solidarity association of current and retired Societe Generale employees. The project aims to build two new secondary-school classrooms and a new three-classroom primary school in the Kantchari municipality.
2nd place: The Ateliere Fara Frontiere foundation from Romania in support of social and professional integration by providing training and qualifications for young people and adults, supported by BRD, a subsidiary of Societe Generale in Romania. The Inser&TIC project is aimed at creating 10 new jobs in 2012 within integration workshops dedicated to recycling computer parts. The monthly goal is to collect 300 computers and assemble over 60 new ones. The refurbished computers will be donated to organisations, schools and hospitals.
3rd place: The Luciole project, developed by the Casa do Zezinho foundation, which helps 150 young people from São Paulo favelas enter the workforce. The initiative is supported by Societe Generale Brazil. In 2011, over 150 young people were given free professionalisation training. Among them, 40% found more stable jobs and 25% passed university entrance exams. The goal in 2012 is to find partners to start tourism courses to increase training capacity and offer new possibilities for entering the labour market.
